The 5 things that make kettles different

Now that you've seen the types, here's the vocabulary behind them — the five choices that separate one kettle from another.

1

Size (capacity)

From a personal 0.8L (about 2–4 cups) up to a family-sized 2.0L. Bigger holds more; smaller heats a single cup faster.

2

Temperature control

Basic kettles boil to 212°F and stop. Temperature-control kettles let you dial in a lower heat — key for green tea and pour-over.

3

Material

Glass lets you watch the water; stainless steel is durable and opaque; double-wall glass stays cool to the touch.

4

Tea infuser

A removable basket that steeps loose-leaf tea right inside the kettle — no separate teapot needed.

5

Spout

A drip-free spout pours cleanly for everyday use. A gooseneck gives the slow, precise stream pour-over and matcha depend on.

Care & safety tips

  • Descale monthly if you have hard water: boil a 50/50 water-and-white-vinegar mix, let sit 15–20 min, then rinse well.
  • Hand-wash the kettle body and infuser — never submerge the electrical base.
  • Fill between the min and max lines — never above max, and never run it empty.
  • Let it cool before refilling a just-boiled kettle.

Frequently asked questions

Is an electric kettle really faster than the stovetop?
Yes — Chefman kettles bring water to a boil in as little as 3 minutes, faster than a stovetop or microwave, and they shut off automatically when it's done.
Do I need temperature control?
If you only drink black tea, coffee, or instant drinks, a Fast-Boil kettle is all you need. If you enjoy green, white, or oolong tea — or brew pour-over coffee — temperature control makes a real difference in flavor.
What's a gooseneck kettle for?
The narrow, curved spout gives you a slow, precise pour, ideal for pour-over coffee and matcha. It's also just a very satisfying way to pour anything.
Glass or stainless steel?
Glass lets you watch the water and check the level at a glance; stainless steel is more durable and hides water spots. Double-wall glass gives you the glass look with a cool-touch exterior.
Can I steep tea directly in the kettle?
Yes — any model with a tea infuser includes a removable basket for loose-leaf or bagged tea.
Are Chefman kettles safe?
Every model has automatic shut-off and boil-dry protection, is cETL approved, and comes with a 1-year Chefman assurance. Cool-touch handles and cordless bases add everyday safety.
