Descaling & Cleaning
Descaling Your Caffeinator
1. Empty the water reservoir
Empty the water reservoir completely and return it to the base. Put the empty capsule receptacle in the brew chamber and close the lid.
2. Prepare Your Descaling Solution
Prepare a commercial descaler according to the package directions OR a 50/50 mix of water and distilled vinegar. Fill the water reservoir completely with the mixture.
3. Position an empty cup
Plug in the unit. Place a large cup (at least 12 oz.) under the brew head.
4. Run your first descaling cycle
Press the CLEAN button, then the BREW | STOP button. The unit will cycle the cleaning solution through its internal parts and dispense into the cup
5. Remove water from cup
When the cycle has finished, discard the liquid in the cup and return the cup to the trivet. Press BREW | STOP again.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5
Repeat until the LOW WATER light comes on
7. Rinse water tank and refill
Rinse the water reservoir thoroughly. Return it to the base and refill with
fresh water.
8. Repeat until water runs low
Repeat the cleaning cycles, emptying the cup each time, until the LOW WATER light comes on.
9. Return to Standby mode
Press CLEAN to return to Standby mode.
Cleaning Your Caffeinator
1. Unplug the unit
Make sure the unit is unplugged and cooled.
2. Remove Coffee Pod
If a coffee pod was used, remove the capsule receptacle with the pod. Discard the pod.
3. Remove any coffee grounds
If coffee grounds were used, remove the reusable coffee filter. Discard the grounds, then rinse the niter with water, and dry completely.
NOTE: Be sure to discard brewed coffee grounds promptly. If they sit in the brew chamber or coffee filter for an extended period of time, they may begin to mold.
4. Empty and clean the water reservoir
For fresh-tasting coffee, empty the water reservoir between uses. Wash the reservoir as needed with warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry well.
5. Replace the water filter
Replace the charcoal water filter cartridge every 1 to 2 months, at a minimum, following the instructions on page 10, steps 4-6
6. Rinse and wash trivet and drip tray
If necessary, rinse and wash the trivet and drip tray with a sponge and warm, soapy water.
7. Wipe down the base of the unit
Wipe down the base of the unit with a damp cloth or sponge, if needed. Dry completely. Never immerse the coffee maker or its plug in water.
NOTE: The coffee maker and its accessories are NOT dishwasher safe.
